Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence – The Inspiring Journey of CMS Vocational Training

A Milestone Anniversary Reflecting a Legacy of Success
As CMS Vocational Training celebrates its 40th anniversary, we invite you to join us in reflecting on our rich history and the exceptional journey that has led us to become a leading independent training provider. Over the past 40 years, CMS has consistently provided high-quality education, ensuring it caters to the ever-evolving needs of employers, learners, and the wider workforce. This article will take you through our history, highlighting the company’s evolution under different ownerships, culminating with an overview of the unparalleled excellence you can expect from CMS Vocational Training today.
1983
In 1983, former Marks and Spencer’s human resource managers Chris Woods and Chrissie Shaw laid the foundations of what would become CMS Vocational Training. Under their visionary leadership, CMS secured its first government contract to deliver youth training in the Huddersfield area. As the company flourished, it expanded its offerings to include consultancy work, youth and adult government training schemes, and apprenticeships. By 1986, CMS Services had evolved into a successful Ltd company, known for its commitment to quality and innovation.
2000
As the 21st century dawned, a new era began for CMS Vocational Training under the directorship of Ruth Triggs and Una Lyons. They took the reins in 2000, as the company transitioned to focus solely on vocational training. Ruth and Una’s dedication to excellence and their passion for education further solidified CMS’s reputation as a premier training provider. They continued to specialise in government-funded training, including programmes such as Train-to-Gain, English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Study Programmes, and Apprenticeships.
2016
The next significant milestone in CMS’s journey came in 2009, when Gareth Luke and Hadyn Luke joined the organisation. Collaborating closely with Ruth and Una, they introduced a Health and Fitness arm to CMS, (CMS Fitness Courses) broadening the scope of services offered. In 2016, Gareth and Hadyn began a management buyout, becoming the driving force behind CMS’s current success. Gareth and Hadyn have steered CMS towards a focus on Advanced Learner Loans and modern-day apprenticeship standards, ensuring the company remains a top choice for employers and learners looking for high-quality, bespoke training programmes.
