Perhaps you’ve always been good with figures, or maybe you like the idea of working in the financial sector – either way, an accountancy apprenticeship could be for you. Alternatively, you might like to follow one of the accounting courses offered by CMS Vocational Training Ltd to increase your chances at a job interview.

This blog has been written to support those learners enrolled on classroom and distance learning based AAT courses, as well as those interested in learning more about accountancy technician practises or wanting to become qualified as a AAT Accountancy Technician in the Huddersfield, Wakefield and Leeds region.

Why accountancy?

Completing an accountancy technician qualificationy can be an interesting and financially rewarding sector to work in, and there are plenty of career opportunities, from working for an accountancy firm to taking a job as an accountant within a large company.

With an accountancy apprenticeship, you can avoid student debt and qualify before those who have gone to university, earning while you learn and gaining practical workplace skills.

It can also fast track you into chartered accountancy. Employees qualified in accountancy are highly sought after and have increased earning potential. You could even work towards setting up your own accountancy practice.

What courses are on offer?

CMS offers the following accountancy CPD courses:

  • AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting
  • AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accountancy
  • AAT Level 4 Diploma in Accountancy

The courses offer AAT qualifications, which are recognised by employers UK wide and across the globe as representing industry excellence, as well as offering practical accounting and business skills.

You can study full time, part time, in the classroom or online at home. Depending on the course, these can be followed on weekdays (Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm) or in the evening (Monday and Thursday, 5.30-8.30pm).

Who is it for?

Anyone looking to follow a career in accountancy, plus:

  • Business administrators, receptionists etc wanting to upskill
  • SMEs who need trained staff to boost their finance department
  • Sole traders who want to maintain their own books

What will you learn?

A variety of skills, depending on the level of the course, including but not limited to:

  • Finance administration
  • Double-entry bookkeeping
  • Purchase, sales and general ledgers

  • Drafting a limited company’s statutory financial statements
  • Budgeting
  • Internal control and accounting systems

Can I get an Advanced Learning Loan for accountancy courses? 

These are currently on offer for those aged 24+ but from July 2016, they will be available for candidates aged 19+.
